Built for the lake and the weather.

Kitchens, bathrooms, additions, roofing, outdoor living and disaster restoration around Canyon Lake — full-time homes, weekend places and rental properties, all of them dealing with slope, wind and water.

Unincorporated County — and the Corps

Canyon Lake is not a city. There is no municipal building department; permitting for your property runs through Comal County, and the requirements that bite hardest here are the county and state ones — on-site sewage, floodplain, and Edwards Aquifer rules.

There is a second authority most homeowners do not expect. The land immediately around the reservoir is federal, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and what can be built near the shoreline is governed separately from anything the county says. If your project is close to the water, that approval is its own track and it needs to start early rather than after design is finished.

Slope, Drainage and Where the Rain Goes

Lake-area lots slope, often hard. Every square foot of new roof or new hardscape sheds water that used to soak in, and on a hillside lot that water finds your foundation or your neighbor’s property unless somebody designs where it goes.

Retaining, area drains, and finished grading are line items in our estimates for a reason. So is the retaining wall nobody wanted to pay for and everybody needs.

Custom Outdoor Cabana And Covered Patio Built By Ar In San Antonio

Wind Exposure Is Real Here

Open water and ridge-top lots put wind on lake-facing elevations that a house three miles inland never sees. It shows up in roofing details, in how a covered patio is anchored, and in which decking and railing survive more than a few seasons.

We detail for it rather than building the same porch we would build on a flat interior lot and hoping.

Second Homes and Rental Properties

A lot of Canyon Lake property is a weekend house or a short-term rental, and that changes what a remodel is actually for. Durability beats delicacy, finishes have to survive turnover, and the schedule has to fit around the weeks you are not booked.

We can run a project while you are not on site and send documented progress rather than asking you to drive out to find out what happened this week.

What We Build in Canyon Lake

How We Work

Every project starts with an in-home consultation and ends with a written, itemized estimate — real numbers against your actual house, not a square-foot guess over the phone. We pull the permits, coordinate the inspections, and handle architectural review submittals where a community requires them. Work is backed by a 2-year workmanship warranty in addition to the manufacturer warranties on the materials you select. City of San Antonio Builder License H-926850.

Canyon Lake Questions

Can you build on a steep lake lot?

Yes, and the slope is usually what drives the design rather than the finishes. Retaining, drainage and foundation stepping matter more here than anywhere else we work, and a deck that ignores prevailing wind off the water is a deck you stop using in March. We design for the site you actually have.

Who issues permits around Canyon Lake?

Most of the shoreline sits in unincorporated Comal County, and some parcels fall under other jurisdictions or lake authority rules. We confirm which applies to your address before quoting and handle the submittal, including any additional review your subdivision requires.

Is an outdoor kitchen worth it with the wind off the lake?

It is if it is oriented and screened properly, and a disappointment if it is not. We look at prevailing wind, afternoon sun and the actual view line before we place anything, because a beautiful outdoor kitchen in the wrong spot gets used twice a summer.

Do you replace roofs out here?

Yes, and hail exposure at the lake is real. Full replacement and repair, and we handle the insurance claim alongside it when a storm is what started the conversation.
